Yes, you read that right… I am fat. I have been guilty of eating in excess without exercise. I have been guilty of being lazy. I have been guilty of being fat. Now, I am not talking about being physically fat, but spiritually fat.
I am fearful that the modern American church, myself included, is guilty of just sitting in a building receiving sermons, the Word, and being discipled. Being spiritually fat is not the way God intended the church to be. The church was made for making disciples and for being a disciple. Being spiritually fat is one who soaks in what is preached without being wrung out to dry.
I am so guilty of this.
I want to challenge and encourage you as I am doing this myself to exercise. Lets not be the church that is spiritually fat. Lets move outside of the four walls that define what “church” is. Let’s make disciples as we are going throughout our day. Lets share our stories about what God is doing. Let us be vulnerable. Let us exercise our faith that God wants and can use us for the Kingdom!
I am in the process of taking what I am learning at the missions program to spreading the knowledge to my community back home. God does not want me to have all this information for myself… that only benefits me. We have “church” to learn about God and His Word, not for ourselves, but for other people to come to know Him through us.
Are you fat? Are you exercising?
Let’s lose weight together.
